Education, Service & Action for Our Unhoused Neighbors
Homelessness is one of the most pressing social justice issues of our time. The Unhoused Initiative, an interdisciplinary campus collaboration, provides opportunities to SCU students, faculty, staff and administrators to engage in the local response to homelessness through education, service and action. The UI offers campus events, faculty research support, experiential learning, and service opportunities, all centered on homelessness and rooted in community partnerships. We seek to promote the dignity and humanity of our unhoused neighbors in all we do.
Because SCU is a campus that fosters projects for others, the UI is making an impact in our community with free legal services, micro-lending and financial education, service projects, and research. We are also making an impact on campus through direct and meaningful engagement with the homelessness crisis. As described by a Public Health Capstone student: “Working with people experiencing homelessness and displacement has been one of the most humanizing experiences I have had … it can be easy to get caught up in our routines and overlook people living on the margins, but once you begin to have real conversations, you see how much we all share in common.” We hope you will support the Unhoused Initiative and our commitment to building a more humane, just, and sustainable world for our unhoused neighbors, our community, and all Broncos. Thank you!
