We believe in hands-on, experiential learning.
The Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences (ESS) offers students the foundational knowledge and skills they will need to address environmental challenges of the 21st century. Our graduates are ready to work for cleaner air and water, healthy food access, sustainable land management, and to accelerate an inclusive and just transition to renewable energy as society responds to pollution, climate change, and other challenges. Our alumni report that they are prepared for public speaking, teamwork, writing, and communication (Yea!).
However, they also want more opportunities for hands-on learning through community-engaged capstone research projects, internships, faculty research assistantships, and field trips. With your gift, we hope to continue engaging our students in a wide breadth of new experiences, including internships with community partners, sending students deep into the insect and arachnid collections at the California Academy of Sciences, purchasing equipment for students to explore wetlands and tidepools, providing incredible opportunities to study in places such as Baja California, and more!
Your support puts intensive, hands-on educational experiences within reach of every student. Thank you so much for giving to ESS!
