Support Career Discovery for our Communication Students
This Day of Giving, the Communication Department is raising money in support of our Communication Career Lab and the Bronco Local Journalism Fellowship.
Started in the 2024-2025 academic year, the Communication Career Lab supports Communication students as they prepare for their future careers. Internship Coordinator and assistant teaching professor Amy Tully Eriksson and a team of Peer Career Advisors provide students with support for exploring career interests, applying to internships and career opportunities, building resumes, networking via LinkedIn and Bronco Exchange, preparing for interviews, and more.
Dr. Eriksson also teaches the Communication 198: Internship course, which provides students with an opportunity to earn credit for their internships while developing professional communication skills. Additionally, she works with campus and external partners to develop internship and experiential learning opportunities for Communication students.
CHALLENGE ALERT
When the Communication Department receives 50 gifts, Bronco parents Rick and Shannon Lowe will make a $10,000 gift to the Career Internship Lab.
"Studying communication at SCU has equipped me with interpersonal, creative media, and many more skills that I utilized to help land my internship and during it as well. My experience has taught me many things, including how critical professional relationships are and how to juggle many projects promptly!"
—Alisha Smith '25, Videography Intern, Golden State Warriors
"I am incredibly grateful for my UMC internship experience, where I was able to apply the skills I learned in my Communication classes to share stories of the community’s successes, build meaningful connections, and encourage engagement. Working for UMC inspired me to apply to USC's Digital Social Media graduate program."

Now more than ever, responsible journalism is vital to our democracy. This Day of Giving, you can help support young journalists at SCU through the Bronco Local Journalism Fellowship.
Bridging the gap between academic learning and professional practice, the Bronco Local Journalism Fellowship places undergraduate journalism students in local newsrooms, with stipends to cover travel and living expenses.
The program provides students with invaluable hands-on experience, while supporting the vital role of local journalism in our community.
The journalism program in the Communication Department has trained determined and ethical journalists for decades. Our graduates report for CNN, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and numerous other major media outlets. They write award-winning books and they win Pulitzer Prizes — journalism's highest honor — for their coverage of local and national events.
