Support Transformative Learning Through Classics
Classics in the broad sense is the interdisciplinary study of all aspects of the life and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and their Mediterranean context. Classics courses are offered in a wide variety of fields: art history, history, language (Greek and Latin), literature, mythology, philosophy, political science, and religious studies. We strive every day to ensure that students receive a quality education that will set them up for success after they graduate.
With your gift to the Classics Department, you can ensure that we are able to continue offering the first-class teaching and fulfilling experiences that transform students into the leaders of tomorrow. Your contribution will also help to support some of our new student initiatives, such as the Classical Languages Award, which encourages students to continue their pursuit of Greek and/or Latin at SCU, and the archaeological consortium we have recently joined, which will enable us to take students on archaeological digs at San Giuliano, just north of Rome.
This wouldn't be possible without the support of people like YOU in our community. Thank you!
CHALLENGE ALERT!
Once 7 gifts are made to Classics, anonymous Bronco Parents will unlock a $5,000 gift to the Department!
"To me, majoring in Classics has been much more than the curriculum. Over the past four years, I have made lasting friendships ‘nerding out’ over rhetorical devices, racy word choice, and fascinating historical context. The small class sizes gave me the opportunity to learn not only from my professors but also from my peers. My Classics major has rewarded me with the ability to effectively communicate, analyze with precision, and the freedom to follow my passions."

“One benefit that I believe the Classics department offers is exposing the student to a multitude of genres and topics. I have been exposed to art, sculpture, plays, poetry, philosophy, and history. I firmly believe the Classics department is the only department at SCU which can provide its students with such a large range of topics to study. This availability has endowed me with a well-rounded education with the ability to think deeply and critically, write clearly and effectively, and read hungrily and meticulously. It does not provide its students with what the business world calls a hard set of skills, but it has provided me with a soft set of skills which will allow me to be protean in the job market.”
